Whether you plan to adopt
domestically or internationally, MyHomeStudy
can guide you to experienced professionals
in your local area.
A home study is required for practically every adoption. Simply put, a home study is an overview of you, your spouse, and anyone else living in your home. It helps your adoption agency or the courts determine if a stable environment exists for a family to receive an adoptive placement. Your social worker will conduct at least one visit in your home and, depending upon the state you live in and the adoption program you choose, will also conduct subsequent visits either in your home or at his or her office. Your social worker will interview each prospective adoptive parent and explore many background areas such childhood, education, employment, marital history, home and community, religion, health, finances, insurance, childrearing, infertility, references, criminal and child abuse clearances, and motivation and attitude toward adoption. Your social worker should also provide you with adoption education and reading materials as well as pre- and post-adoption support.
